Eucalyptus are evergreen trees or large shrubs, often fast-growing, some with attractive bark, most with aromatic foliage, and clusters of small, white, yellow or red flowers.
E. gunnii is a large evergreen tree with peeling cream and brown bark. Juvenile foliage bright glaucous-blue, rounded; adult leaves elliptic or sickle-shaped, grey-green. Flowers white, in small clusters.

Pruning
These evergreen shrubs and deciduous trees and certain deciduous shrubs need very little pruning and are best left to their own devices in most cases. They do not send out vigorous shoots that need curbing. Remove diseased , damaged congested or crossing shoots. Shoots that are growing in unwanted directions can also be pruned out. Do this in late winter or early spring, unless late summer or early autumn pruning is specified to avoid bleeding and facilitate rapid healing of cut surfaces. These plants flower on previous or current year's growth..

For best juvenile foliage are pruned very hard in late winter or early spring. All growth should be cut back hard to a stubby low framework or, in the case of Rubus, to ground level. Shrubs with dramatic summer foliage, Cotinus, Sambucus and some Eucalyptus for example, are also pruned in this way to induce vigorous shoots with big, bold leaves.
Fertiliser and mulch should be spread around these plants in late winter or early spring to encourage strong regrowth Restrictive pruning may be necessary under glass.
